Robbie Williams in concert and more...
Von Melanie Reinert
"Let me entertain you" is a hit and the motto at the concerts given by the British pop-star Robbie Williams. The heart-throb's career began in 1990 with the most successful boy band of the '90s: Take That. He was the clown of the group, the boy with the roguish grin - someone else was to take care of the singing. However, the role of clown did not appeal to Williams for long. In 1995 he was thrown out of the group after increasingly frequent differences of opinion with the secret leader of the group, Gary Barlow, and the manager Nigel Martin Smith.
His solo career began one year later. After a somewhat sluggish start, he has since become one of the most sought-after musicians of all. For some time now his concerts are not only the preserve of teenies. According to an opinion poll conducted by the British edition of Cosmopolitan, one in two women between 16 and 49 would swap their partner for a one-night-stand with Robbie Williams.
The 29-year-old is not only a sex god, he is an excellent musician, too. The entertainer has been showered with awards. As well as being good-humoured, he is also sensitive. His current single "Come undone" features as the B-side "Happy Easter (War is coming)", a song that recalls John Lennon's Anti-Vietnam song "Happy Christmas" (War is over) of 1972.
According to the BBC, Robbie Williams said on the topic of the war in Iraq: "To be honest: I am really afraid. It is a very serious matter. I don't understand it all. I am worried about the future of all people since I no longer know whom to believe at all. It is the first globally significant event that I am old enough to really follow and have my own point of view on".
