Humanitarian Response for Afghanistan

7 million people urgently need humanitarian relief, food, water, shelter, and other assistance. Families throughout the country are facing serious food shortages and, in some drought-affected provinces, it is estimated that up to 80% of the inhabitants need immediate help.

ECHO is supporting four NGO food distribution programmes covering almost 200,000 families and is providing resources for an NGO-run winter-needs programme for 36,000 vulnerable people in Kabul. UNICEF operations to provide medical kits in Kabul and cover winter needs in northern Afghanistan are also being funded.
