The history of Pro Asyl
In November 1985
the former representative of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees in Germany, René van Rooyen
met with Dr.Jürgen Micksch of the Evangelical Academy
Tutzing. The cause for their meeting was to prepare the
foundation of an organisation which would effectively
represent the rights of persons persecuted on account of
their race, religion or political opinion: Pro Asyl.
In September 1986..
the working group Pro Asyl was founded in Frankfurt/Main.
From the beginning, the representative of the United
Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was to be a
permanent advisor to Pro Asyl.
1990..
Pro Asyl is established as an organisation in which the
executive members of the registered society possess a seat
and thus a vote. The organisation Pro Asyl is hence
constituted of representatives of national refugee
initiatives, of individuals associated e.g. with the church or
trade unions, as well as of the executive of the (registered)
society.
